Last week a couple of us lucky lifestyle and food bloggers had the honor of partaking in a menu tasting at MKT Bar along with an amazing tour through Phoenicia Foods downtown by the owner herself. Being taken through the store by Ann Marie while she gave us the history of Phoenicia and a background of her family was a tour like no other. If you have been to the downtown location before, you already know that the food and wine selection is one of a kind. Not only can you purchase groceries at Phoenicia, but you can lunch there and also enjoy a cup of gourmet coffee all while watching the freshly made pita bread make its way through the conveyor belt throughout the store. Oh and did I mention they also have the cutest giftable items from books to kitchenware?! I’ll be back for you cute coffee mug, cutting board and apron!

Not only does Phoenicia inventory such a great array of international foods and wine from places like Greece, Austria and South Africa, but hearing Ann Marie talk about her family along with pointing out spices and items that are named after her Mom and Dad as we walked throughout the store was something extra special. 🙂

After touring the amazing space and getting to try the appetizers placed throughout the store for us to taste we were all looking forward to dinner!

Seriously, everything they provided at the tasting was so delicious. From the appetizers, to the cocktails to the dessert! O..M..G..the dessert guys! Goodness I just remembered I need to get back there stat! 🙂

We experienced some great flavor that evening, but I would like to share what my absolute favorites were and a definite must try in my book!

Meat & Cheese Platter | Cheese is always a good idea!

Splish Splash Cocktail | Dill infused agave nectar, pinot grigio and strained cucumber finished with bitters. This concoction is nothing short of amazingness!

Braised Lamb Tacos | I wish I would have taken some to go!

**Food Photography: Julie Soefer

Veg Out Pizza | Roasted squash, zucchini, crispy brussels sprouts, goat cheese, basil pesto, artichokes and spout leaves. My mouth is watering as I type!

Roasted Half Chicken | Okay, this chicken with olives and lemon was so amazing that I actually took a to go box home for the Mr. so that he could experience it too.

**If my hubby is reading this, I’m sorry that this is new news to you because I ate the food I brought home for you before I went to bed. I’m sorry!!! But it’s not my fault you were already asleep when I got home LOL

Warm Apple Baklava with Snickerdoodle Gelato | no need to say anything more!

Okay, I hope you guys are ready to visit MKT Bar for your next night out because I am so ready to go back! In addition to dinner and vinyl and vino night, they also have happy hour specials Monday through Friday, fun games night Monday, Tuesday/Thursday steak night and weekend brunch. Stay up to date with all of their latest events by clicking here.

Thank you so much Phoenicia Foods, MKT Bar and Ann Marie for hosting us last week! I’ll see you soon!

Thank you to Julie Soefer for letting us use your amazing food photos!

And thank YOU all for reading! If you are in Houston let’s meet up for a meal and if you aren’t in Houston, call me when you are! 🙂

5 Ways To Instant Happiness

Happy Monday!!

Did you all have a fabulous weekend?! I sure hope so! But now we are back to the Monday grind and if you are having the Monday blues I am sharing 5 ways to instant happiness! 🙂

Workout

Okay, okay. I know some of you are reading this like this shouldn’t qualify for instant happiness. Maybe you are dragging into the gym at 5am or 5pm, but you gotta admit once you get those endorphins going it is such a good feeling. Not only do you have more energy, but you feel better about your accomplishment and you start to make better food choices throughout the week and in return makes you more happy overall.

Treat yourself to a yummy coffee (or tea)

This seems like such a little thing, but I typically make my coffee at home in the morning before I fight the battle of AM traffic. Something about stopping at Starbucks or a local coffee shop for an extra delicious coffee or an extra pretty concoction that is Instagram worthy totally makes my morning.

**Extra bonus: buy your coworker a coffee or pay for the person behind you in line. Making someone’s day is also a way to instant happy! For you and them!

Do a good deed

Doing something nice for someone, big or small is always a good idea. Not only are you helping someone else out, but you will feel so good about what you have done. If you are following me on snap (roselyn_m) you saw that last week I signed up to ride in Houston’s Tour De Cure. My company is a huge part of this event and it fundraises for the American Diabetes Association. I signed up to ride 35 miles and though I’m kind of scared because my cycling days consist of 45 minutes of “am I going to make it through this class” at Ryde, the overwhelming feeling of happiness that I was doing this for a greater cause totally outweighs my fear of “hopefully I don’t fall off this road bike in front of everyone”. So…small plug if you would like to complete your good deed today and help us reach our fundraising goal click here to make a monetary donation. Seriously, no amount is too small! 🙂

Plan your next vacation

Whether a vacation or a staycation, having something fun to look forward to is definitely a key to happiness. Maybe it’s to the next state to see a family member, maybe it’s a beach getaway with your nearest and dearest friends. Either way, planning something fun and being able to look forward to it makes me oh so happy!

Google “parent text fails”

Okay, I am seriously laughing out loud over here just thinking about it. Maybe you are having a not so great day and you just “don’t wanna” do any of the 4 things above. Grab that frozen yogurt, get in your pj’s, sit on your comfy couch and google “parent text fails”! Seriously, making Roselyn laugh since 2005 (insert laughing emoji here x 1000) Here is one of my favorites!

IMG_1819[1]

I have a bunch of other favorites too. Some not so appropriate for reposting LOL. You must google this and tell me what your favorite one is!!

Happy Monday guys! Complete some of these this week and feel some instant happiness! 🙂

Thank you so much for reading!! I appreciate you!

First Day Of Summer + Heat Swimwear

Happy first day of Summer!!

I hope everyone had an amazing Father’s Day weekend and got to spend it with your loved ones! As you know, my Dad is in California so I didn’t physically spend the day with him but of course we face timed and since my entire family is there I always know he is taken care of and being celebrated as he should be! The Mr. and I got to spend the afternoon with his Dad and family which is always a great time!

So, unlike yesterday I will be at the office all day, but knowing today is the first day of summer makes this Monday a little bit brighter! 🙂

What better way to kick it off than with a pretty swimwear post!

Surrounded by the ocean and beautiful white sand beaches, Heat Swimwear knows what they are doing! They have been in the wholesale business for about 8 years and have decided to launch a website for retail sales and this has me so excited! I love the mix and match options that they offer as well as many of the fun prints. I think the geo print that I am wearing in the 2nd look is my favorite! I love that I can mix and match these pieces together. Perfect for beach vacations so you can have multiple looks with these 4 pieces and your hubby won’t get on you for over packing!

Shop their cute styles here and keep checking back as they continue to add more styles!

Thank you guys so much for reading and wishing you lots of yummy coffee to get you through this Monday fun day! 🙂

DIY: Faux Suede Choker

Happy FriYAY!

I am not a jewelry designer nor do I have the skills even near to their talent, but when I saw a suede choker that I absolutely adored tagged at $60  I just couldn’t justify spending that much on basically a string and some charms! So… I took a shot at trying it myself and it was so easy that I can’t help but share with you!

What you will need:

IMG_1224[1]

1.Faux Suede Cord (Walmart)

2.Two Charms (Hobby Lobby)

3.Beads (Hobby Lobby)

4.Scissors (Hobby Lobby)

5.Glue Gun (Hobby Lobby)

How to:

Step 1: Decide on the length of the necklace you want. I wanted mine to wrap around my neck twice and hang pretty long so it ended up being 75″. Once you decide on the length, cut the cord 2 inches longer than that so you have room to tie the beads and charms on.

IMG_1225[1]

Step 2: Take one end of the string and pull your beads and charm through.

IMG_1226[1].JPG

Step 3: Tie one knot where the charm meets the string.

IMG_1228[1]

Step 4: Glue  right above the knot so that beads will stay secure when you slide them down.

IMG_1229[1]

Step 5: Pull beads down so that they are touching the charm

Step 6: Cut the extra piece of cord. **cut as close to the bead as possible to get a clean edge.

IMG_1231[1]

Step 7: Repeat steps 1-6 on the other end

And…VOILA! You’ve got yourself a faux suede choker necklace! Easy right?!

IMG_1223[1]

With this much ease I will definitely be making more!

Will you?! 🙂

Again, thank you guys so much for taking the time to read the blog! Stay tuned for some site updates coming soon! Crossing my fingers for no down time, but we will figure out as we go!

Again, Happy FRIDAY because that can never be said enough! 🙂

Pretty Prints & Perfect Fits + eShakti

Have you ever found an item and thought to yourself “this would be so perfect if only it was sleeveless or the neckline was different or if it had pockets!”? If your answer to this question is yes, girl do I have the site for you!

IMG_1163[1]IMG_1161[1]IMG_1162[1]IMG_1166[1]IMG_1164[1]IMG_1167[1]

Dress (this print is no longer available so I linked up the similar silhouette) | Sandals (similar here and here) | Earrings

Not only was I swooning over the mixed prints on this colorful dress but I was also able to customize the length so that this maxi would fit my 5 foot 3 (a half) inches self! Sometimes I struggle with fitted dresses around the rib cage area (too tight) but since I was able to customize measurements this dress fits so perfectly. And being able to add pockets to any dress is a win in my book!

eShakti has so many styles from sizes 0-36w that you can customized to your liking. Plus they add new styles every week! How perfect, right?! All you have to do is:

1.Visit eShakti.com

2.Choose your style

3.Specify your measurements

4.Customize your dress to your liking; neckline, sleeve length, pockets! 🙂

5.Place your order and within 14 days you will receive your customized style!

I can’t wait to see what you choose!

SheIn Dress + Why Reviews Are Important

 IMG_1067[1]IMG_1071[1]IMG_1070[1]IMG_1066[1]IMG_1069[1]IMG_1073[1]

Dress | Heels (similar here and here) | Clutch (similar here and here) | Sunnies | Belt (similar) | Earrings

This post was done in collaboration with Shein. Have you ever ordered from them before? They reached out to me a couple of weeks ago and to be completely honest I was hesitant at first because I have heard both good and bad things about the website. Like anything else in life, I had to try it out and see for myself. To my surprise I received my item quickly and the quality was good!

Not only did I want to share this oh so pretty dress with you but I wanted to talk about why reviews are important. Have you ever purchased a swimsuit or bra online? I use these examples because these are probably the most difficult items to purchase without trying on. If you are anything like me and love shopping online then purchasing swimsuits and bras online is inevitable. If I am not familiar with a brand what really helps me is reading the product reviews. Aside from the product descriptions and measurement guide I really trust the product reviews. I really appreciate the shoppers who take the time to give their real life feedback like, “I’m usually a true medium but it was pretty small around the chest area. I think I’ll keep it though because a large will definitely be too big”. Reviews like that are very helpful and really help me make a decision when buying online.

Now back to Shein and please give me your feedback on your personal experience because I have heard a lot of different reviews from friends!

I chose this dress and another. I loved them both equally but as I was reading through the customer reviews of the other dress I noticed a lot of negative comments like “fit is horrible and dress did not look the photo”.

This dress on the other hand was exactly as pictured and since it is a white dress I expected I would have to wear a slip underneath. The material is actually pretty thick that you won’t have to wear a slip and thank goodness for that with this Texas heat! However, the top area runs a little big so if you are in between sizes I would definitely size down for this particular style. That was also noted in the reviews by multiple customers so that definitely helped me decide on size.

Also, I’m not sure if you saw my 72 second snapchat rant during the weekend, but I talked about my blog reviews. I always write 100% honest reviews on The Style_Lynn Kind. I wouldn’t post anything on my blog that I wouldn’t use or wear myself. I don’t want any readers to come across my blog or any of my blogger friends’ blogs (say that 5x fast!) and think we say things because we are getting paid.

In the past I have agreed to work with companies on reviews, but once I received the product it was not the quality I had expected so I kindly reached back out and said I couldn’t write the review on my blog. This space is not to bad mouth product or to put negative energy out there. This space is here because I spend time searching and trying brands, products and affordable finds that I love so I can share them with you. If I don’t like a product or brand I just chose not to work or write about them. I’m not wasting my time writing a whole negative post. Ain’t nobody got time for that! 🙂

If you asked me personally or sent me an email asking about a product that I didn’t have a good experience with then I would be honest with you because that’s helpful, but I’m not here to put anyone or anything on blast.

Okay sorry, sorry. My 72 second rant turned into multiple paragraphs, haha! I just needed to put that out there.

So basically, my overall review for my Shein experience was good! Quality was good, fit was great, and shipping was quick! The shipping may have been really quick because they knew I was doing a review (just being honest). Remember this product is coming from overseas which it states online as well so be prepared for it to take a little longer than what you are used to from your favorite department store.

If you are debating on ordering something from them:

1) Let it be this dress 🙂

2) READ the reviews before making that final decision to add it to your cart!

I would love to hear your feedback on this topic or on your Shein experience!

Thank you so much for reading guys!

xo, Roselyn
